The household was listed as Beersheba Hubbard, a 58 year old widow, keeping house, born in Georgia, with real estate valued $300 and personal estate $250; Missouri Hubbard, age 36, without occupation, born Georgia; and Thomas W. Hubbard, age 17, farmer, born in Alabama. They lived next to Virginia Ann Hunt.
Tammie Gregg was told by her grandmother that Barsheba lived off of Owens Road just up the road from the Owens cemetery and had a big plantation.

Barsheba married Wilson N. HUBBARD circa 1846 in Alabama.1 The following anecote is from Tammie Gregg via Find A Grave:
"I was told by my grandmother, Eliza Leona Nixon Monfee, that Grandma Hubbard's name was Barsheba Broadnax Harrison Hubbard. My grandmother pronounced the name as "Barsheba, " not Beersheba. I was also told that at some point she was adopted by a Harrison family. I don't know if they formally adopted her.
Grandma Hubbard was known to be tough. She drove the wagon from Georgia to Alabama herself . She carried a pistol in her skirt and also kept a whip with her, which she was known to use on anyone who she thought needed it. During the Civil War, her husband went to serve, even though he was older. He never came back. Several neighboring children were put in her care during the war, probably since she had a safe place to live. But food got scarce toward the end and right after the war. To make ends meet, she made plans to give away some of the children, one of whom was her grandson, Albert Nixon. A family wanted him. Her daughter had already died, and her son-in-law, William Lindsay Nixon, was serving in Selma. But just before she gave her grandson away, William came back, after walking home from Selma, and got his son."2
